roscoedoh
Howdy all! My parts finally came back from the gunsmith and I finally got to assembly my new FAL last night. What I have is an IMBEL kit built on a Century Arms receiver. This receiver was part of the first run they made last year and according to what I was told, the rifle went together without any issues associated with later production CE FAL receivers. This model FAL is often referred to as "metric" because it was built on Belgian licensed tooling and uses metric measurements. The metric is the most common type of FAL you'll encounter and consequently, is the model with the most spare parts and accessories available. Magazines are like $10 (try that M1A fans!). Here are some pictures. The kit before I put it together: The right side of the rifle: The left side: And here is it field stripped but with the gas piston still in place: The rifles are extremely durable and have an adjustable gas system that you can open up to allow the rifle to continue to function when its dirty. You have to tune the gas system to make the rifle function properly. I just got mine dialed in and it runs like a swiss watch. FALs are a direct descendant of the FN49, which I also have, and is often called the "Right Arm of the Free World" because it was fielded by so many countries during the Cold War. Here is some more information FALs:Wikipedia Article on FALs I've always wanted one of these and now by golly I've got one. Life is good! z1r
I'm not sure which I like better, the BBQ, or the FAL. I really need to get off my butt and put together a rifle on my Imbel receiver. Congrats on completing another project.

Congrats on completing another project. Personally I'd say the grill, looks like it's got a nice firebox on the side. But nice rifle too. -Don
montea6b
I'm not sure which I like better, the BBQ, or the FAL. Jason is working on the BBQ. It just needs to be boiled and carded...
robdog
Anyone know where I can get a couple Imbel receivers at a decent price?

Doble Troble
Jason, Your Wikipedia link goes to a high resolution image of your rifle. I suspect this was intentional subterfuge, because now I really want to build one, regardless of it's history. Now I NEED a cool-looking, semi-auto, 7.62 x 51 NATO-shooting, milsurp. I hope this doesn't turn-out to be too expensive, dammit. PS Monte's on to something...after your next BBQ try dousing the grill with hot water and take a wire wheel to it - you might get a nice blue on those horse shoes. Gothmog
Very nice ... I wish we could own and shoot them here in Canada. They were put on the 'baby killer' list 15 or 20 years ago, unfortunately.

ken98k
Nice job. Is there any connection between a fal and a cetme?
724wd
Nice job. Is there any connection between a fal and a cetme? they both fire 7.62x51? nothing interchanges. FAL's are a gas blowback where CETME's are recoil.
