jl2695
I recently bought a sporterized Swedish Mauser M96 with a butterknife bolt handle. I absolutly love the looks of butterknife handles but because the Swedish mausers are "cock on closing" it's really uncomfortable to chamber a new round. The edge of the butterknife cuts into the palm of my hand. The question is do I get someone to weld a ball on the end or should I replace the entire handle. Another thought I had is maybe there's a way to change the bolt so it cocks on opening like the model 98's. Any and all suggestions are welcomed (within reason that is)
tinkerfive
If it is possible to change the radius of the edge and make it more blunt, you may find it much more comfortable. Tinker
riceone
Do what Tinker says. If the handle is sharp on the back and front edge it will do that. File and then sand the front and back edge the same amount and it will not only feel better but will look nice. Welding knob on it will make it look bad. riceone. 724wd
i have to think that an added on knob to a butterknife handle would be a bad idea. blunt the edges or cut it off and start over.
odies dad
Cock on open conversions are available, but I haven't heard much positive feedback on them.
donmarkey
I had a forged one that was thin like that. The welded ones seem to have more meat on them and aren't so sharp. -Don
